Shovel Snow for a Senior this Season
Lend a hand and help a neighbor, friend, or relative that may have a hard time shoveling this season.
The Facts: After a snowfall, do kids in your neighborhood still offer to shovel driveways and sidewalks for a few dollars? This backbreaking work is strenuous, and may be particularly dangerous for older adults, those who are typically sedentary, or people living with heart conditions. Sadly, every year, people die shoveling snow.
If you’re heathy, consider helping a senior dig out this winter – whether by shovel or snow blower. Here are four ways to help when Old Man Winter throws a storm your way:
-
After it snows, make a point to also shovel out senior neighbors and friends.
-
Check in on a senior before it snows and let them know you’ll help clear.
-
Help clear a car covered in snow or ice.
-
If you have senior loved ones that live further away or you can’t help shovel, look into a shoveling service that can help them this winter.

Good suggestion
I share homemade soup and bread with Seniors.Of course hugs and conversations follow.
Am 82 years old and cannot even do my own shoveling. We just had a snow storm and have a hired person moving my snow. Will try to do the next suggestion.
Finding interesting things to do as an indoor activity when snowy and cold outside. Have done puzzles….watched a good dvd on tv…..read the paper together and have discussions…..or watch tv news and share comments…..and jointly do some crossword puzzles. Lots to do when indoors teying to keep warm.
We don’t have snow & don’t think at my age I would attempt it anyway. I have visited a local nursing home several times this week & visited many residents.
I had fun in joying helping people need us. Be nice and
Hi everyone,
I enjoyed myself @ the
hospital yesterday 2/2/2019
Visiting with a elderly friend for 3hrs. I assisted with some basic ADL’s. Some grooming & hygiene. Assist with positioning & meal ordering. We just enjoyed each other’s company. Much thankful
I used the snow blower to clean out a seniors driveway and sidewalk.
We don’t live in snow country or have a senior that does but instead I took care of cleaning the neighbors driveway of the dirt and debris that had accumulated over time.
