Learn About Senior Isolation and Loneliness

Finished this kind act? Log it!

A death in the family. A financial dilemma. Maybe even a disconnect after a big move. There are many reasons why a senior may become socially isolated or have feelings of loneliness. Unfortunately for most, these issues may only worsen with age – creating numerous health risks over time.

A recent study from the CDC found that seniors experiencing social isolation or loneliness were at significantly greater risk for serious health problems.

Educating caring people about senior issues is one of the core reasons Ready to Care® was created. Being knowledgeable let’s us find the empathy and compassion to create a world today that we all want to grow older in.

Want to change the face of aging? Here are some resources you can check out to get up to speed on senior isolation and loneliness:

  1. Ready to Care Blog – Every month we post useful information on senior issues and how to get involved in your community. Check out our recent post that discusses ending the senior isolation epidemic.
  2. NIH – The National Institute on Aging is a wealth of knowledge on health and research surrounding the senior community.
  3. Home Instead Care ResourcesHere you’ll find resources for family caregivers on everything from caregiving to Alzheimer’s and other common issues seniors face.

What are some other senior issues you have questions about? Let us know in the comments.

I am signed up now to help and complete the daily act of kindness towards a senior! My parents and Uncles and Aunts are seniors and I do as many acts of kindness for them daily, weekly etc. However, I see a lot of seniors walking by themselves or shopping by themselves and want to do more which is why I’m learning as much as I can on how to help!
