Which decoration made it feel like the holidays for you? Is it the beautiful, grand Christmas tree? Lighting the menorah? Maybe it’s the twinkling lights around your neighborhood? Whatever it may be, we know that bringing holiday cheer can take a lot of work. That’s why we’re asking you to lend a helping hand to an older loved one or friend by helping them decorate their own home for the holidays.
The holiday spirit can take many forms, here are some ways you can bring it to a senior:
- Cookie decorating kit. Bring them the joy of baking without the mess by delivering holiday-themed icing, sprinkles and cookies they can decorate on their own.
- Make them a one-of-a-kind holiday music playlist. Share your favorite music by creating a CD or share through your favorite music streaming site.
- Do the heavy lifting. Help with decorating tasks that are physically demanding, like putting up the tree or hanging outdoor lights.
Let us know how you help ring in the holidays for your aging loved ones!

Visited 3 seniors and delivered poinsettias to them. I visited each for over 3 hours. We talked and ate. I had a great time. It was a blessing to me and they expressed that they really enjoyed my visit and loved the plants. This was a great idea😊I hope everyone does it.

I really like the poinsettia idea. That’s a great idea for this Covid distancing time.
I’ll call and drop one on the porch.

I currently work in homecare. This holiday season has left some more lonely than prior years due to the isolation of Covid-19 precautions. Here is what I have been doing since the day after Thanksgiving: assisting in setting up holiday decorations, playing holiday music, watching holiday movies together, baking cookies, bringing each senior a gift such as a small ornament or favorite holiday candy. I try to keep in mind a favorite candy or treat they enjoyed as a child, they haven’t had in years. (Diets permitting of course) One senior I streamed music of her family’s heritage. She enjoyed hearing the holiday songs in her family’s language.
I bought a “Countdown ‘Til…”
Visual Calendar in the dollar holiday section of a well-known store. I use this in memory care…Currently, it’s a Countdown ‘Til Christmas.
Helped clean their apts
I mailed Christmas cards to several seniors in our community. I even received one, from a senior, after he received my card.
I need something with substance in my life
I wish I could been limited with covid
I made some gifts bags
Hello! Happy Holidays! Hang in there, we are all together in these days. Much love.
