Create a Valentine’s Card
Whether it’s to your grandmother or the friendly greeter at your local grocer, show you care this Valentine’s Day by giving a thoughtful and loving card or letter to a senior in your life. Notes not only show you care, but also remind older adults who may be socially isolated that they are not alone.
Here are three other important reasons to send a card or letter this week:
- Others haven’t – You may be the other only person to send someone a message of love.
- We need more love – 2020 was a rough year. Remind a senior that humanity and compassion still exist.
- It feels great – Acts of kindness are proven to not only benefit those on the receiving end, but also the one doing them.

I have always been told kindness starts at home. With my 4 girls living at home still amd my 2 grandsons it’s hard to step down from the business of everyday things going on and just “be still.” As the evening drew closer to an end and everyone was settling in their beds, my 3 yr old grandson Jase. started talking about how this Aug he was going to start pre K where his older brother goes to school. I sat quietly and just listened to what was on his heart. Just to hear the excitement in his little voice as he talked to me, made me realize that even the smallest of humans have “Big ideas” too.. to them. Just listen and be patient with others. Life is busy, but God will slow you down to listen to His Sweetest little voices!

Sent my 2 hospice “phone buddies” Valentine cards with valentine pictures I colored for them, with notes that they are loved and appreciated
I did not send a card but did visit in person one long-time neighbor on our block, and one across the street, and the one next door, to let them know I greatly value them in our neighborhood and I am thankful to God for them. As they are the same sex as me I certainly was not going to send them a Valentine’s Day card. However I DID want them to know I really appreciate them being here. And I have tried at other times to let them know they are greatly valued. When there are good and kind neighbors in my neighborhood that does help me and I want to make sure they know they have value to all of us here.
After posting my comment it was only then that I saw several others and I REALLY appreciate the one from the person named Jimmy describing the care of him and his wife for the lady in their church. I believe that is EXACTLY how we all should be to others we know. I think EVERY comment here that I have now just read is a great example of how we can and do care. I’m sure it makes a real difference for the receiver AND the giver.
Feeling blue and helpless not being able to see my dad, I decided to cheer myself up by making homemade Valentine’s Day cards for all the residents which I signed as Your Secret Admirer. I included one for my dad and the facility as well of course, and shipped them yesterday the 6th of February. 🥰
