Create a Valentine’s Card

Finished this kind act? Log it!

Whether it’s to your grandmother or the friendly greeter at your local grocer, show you care this Valentine’s Day by giving a thoughtful and loving card or letter to a senior in your life. Notes not only show you care, but also remind older adults who may be socially isolated that they are not alone.

Here are three other important reasons to send a card or letter this week:

  1. Others haven’t – You may be the other only person to send someone a message of love.
  2. We need more love – 2020 was a rough year. Remind a senior that humanity and compassion still exist.
  3. It feels great – Acts of kindness are proven to not only benefit those on the receiving end, but also the one doing them.

Send love to an older adult in your life this Valentine’s Day with Cupid Crew, a movement by Wish of a Lifetime from AARP. Create your Cupid Crew card today.

I have alot of of elderly friends and family. I talk to them everyday, to see if they need anything from the store. Everytime I go to BJ’s, I pick them up salad and a rotisserie chicken. Most of them are very independent. So we talked together and pray together and laughed together.

I have a very dear friend in skilled nursing facility. She was in the hospital about 5 weeks ago with pneumonia but not covid. I contracted her daughter to see how she was doing & the news was not great. I then contacted all the friends in our group to pray for her & send cards.

I have always been told kindness starts at home. With my 4 girls living at home still amd my 2 grandsons it’s hard to step down from the business of everyday things going on and just “be still.” As the evening drew closer to an end and everyone was settling in their beds, my 3 yr old grandson Jase. started talking about how this Aug he was going to start pre K where his older brother goes to school. I sat quietly and just listened to what was on his heart. Just to hear the excitement in his little voice as he talked to me, made me realize that even the smallest of humans have “Big ideas” too.. to them. Just listen and be patient with others. Life is busy, but God will slow you down to listen to His Sweetest little voices!

I keep in touch with a couple of elderly people who I either text or call once a week to see how they are doing. Both of them live close by so it is easy to go to them if they need any help.

I searched the internet for the perfect Valentines Day Card and surprise for my far Momma.
She like bed in Arizona and I in Indiana. The corona virus has kept me from my annual visit to her. We are both widows and get rather lonely from time to time. The virus making it so much worse, we can’t gadabout like we used to.
I found a Minnie Mouse In A rose bush pop up card. Minnies expression is just adorable…head in hands , gazing out.
It will make my momma laugh. She’ll display it, if I know her and giggle every time see looks at it.

I did not send a card but did visit in person one long-time neighbor on our block, and one across the street, and the one next door, to let them know I greatly value them in our neighborhood and I am thankful to God for them. As they are the same sex as me I certainly was not going to send them a Valentine’s Day card. However I DID want them to know I really appreciate them being here. And I have tried at other times to let them know they are greatly valued. When there are good and kind neighbors in my neighborhood that does help me and I want to make sure they know they have value to all of us here.

After posting my comment it was only then that I saw several others and I REALLY appreciate the one from the person named Jimmy describing the care of him and his wife for the lady in their church. I believe that is EXACTLY how we all should be to others we know. I think EVERY comment here that I have now just read is a great example of how we can and do care. I’m sure it makes a real difference for the receiver AND the giver.
