Compliment a Senior

A few kind words can make a positive impact on someone.
Finished this kind act? Log it!

Nothing feels better than buying a new outfit or changing your hairstyle and getting a compliment from a total stranger. In fact, studies have shown that being acknowledged has the same positive effect as receiving cash. For a senior who may not receive a lot of social interaction, this act of kindness may seem like winning the lottery.

Here are five compliments that may brighten a senior’s day:

    • “I admire you” – Let someone know you appreciate who they are and what they mean to you.
    • “Your smile is contagious” – You light up the room that you’re in.
    • “That color looks good on you” – Note a color scheme they like to wear.
    • “You do (blank) well” – Maybe they are a great cook or maintain a tidy house or yard. Let them know.
    • “I value the time spent with you” – Make it known that you think the world of their company.

What makes you feel good?

I always compliment every senior that I see day to day! I think that they haven’t heard any compliments in a while, so whatever stands out to me about them, I make it a point to say it to them daily! It always puts a smile on both of our faces and that is priceless to both of us… ❤️🌈🌺

Good Morning! I hope you are doing well. Looks like we are going to get some snow. The sun is popping out every once in awhile.

I just adopted the cutest little chihuahua senior dog. He is the perfect little dog. His name is Jarvis. I am a senior too and he really brightens my days!

I hope you have a blessed day and enjoy watching the snow fall.

My Client ask if she could vacuum the floors, this task would help with her co-ordination and also with completing a task rather than getting bored. She did the job well and also completed it. I complimented her on a job well done, which surprised her, she lacks self esteem. She was very appreciative of the compliments and wore a big smile the rest of the day.

I have a big heart for my neighbors. They come to me for help emails, phone calls, purchasing food etc. I make extra in making my own meals to share. Helped Joyce, find reasonable car, spoke, listened. Hearing aid wasn’t working correctly. Anita, on December 25th came pounding on my door. Honey, Im not feeling well. Can we go to the clinic. She described her systems. Omg! Signs of heart attack. Calling 911 she said no ! Scared. I immediately dialed 911. Ambulance arrived. Had to talk her into going. She didn’t want to go alone. I told her I am right here she will be fine. With pandemic strict rules. Was so worried, and sad all day. Around 6:00 p.m. Anita calls. Im so glad to hear your voice. Anita, hardly speaking, OMG! are you ok. Patricia, I had a massive heart attack. Could hear all the machines in background. Surgery, stint placed in her heart. Tears flowing knowing she was ok. I am so grateful she ran to me to seek help. Listening, love, kindness. Goes along ways. Today, She knows I am here. Love thy neighbors.

I take care of my father who is 94. Daily, I cook for him, ck in things, do small jobs around the house and outside. Then at night, I take care of his leg therapy and any nursing skills needed. In 2014, I became certified nursing assistant to help him.

Just listening to him and being patient is the best thing I can give him.
I told him yesterday how organized he is! And that, he made a better secretary tha n I ever would! He like that!

I’m blessed to volunteer with hospice and be a “phone buddy” to 2 senior hospice patients. I call them each once a week just to chat – I tell them both that I love our chats and hope to visit with them once covid is over, and that they are my “adopted” family. I also call hospice patients on their birthdays. Sometimes I get voicemail, sometimes a caregiver tells me the patient is asleep – but the patients I talk to, I’ll sing them happy birthday and tell them how special they are. The patient and their families are so appreciative of the call and tell me the call really brightened the patient’s day.❤❤

My mom passed away this past July and her oldest friend is really feeling her loss. She sent me a message by mistake and apologized; the message was a Peanuts cartoon saying that friends make the pain go away. I didn’t realize it, but I did need that message too. I wrote her and thanked and reminded her that she is an inspiration to me.

OK— this I was easy!
Today I gave 2 compliments: One via text message to my out of town auntie: she has come a long way in learning and improving her computer/typing skills in the last 3-4 years! Amazing! And so much easier to keep in touch. We both signed up for a virtual art seminar.
2nd compliment in person to an elderly neighbor. I told her she dresses nicely and always wears pretty colors that suit her. She said red is her favorite because it’s so cheerful.
Hooray—so easy to affirm others.

I was doing my walking exercise in my Sun City neighborhood when I saw an older gentleman walking towards me. He was obviously older and sort of shuffled along. When we passed each other he said: “Beautiful day, isn’t it?” I could hardly hear him in that he spoke very softly. I replied: “It sure is!” I kept walking about 5 steps then remember the act of kindness. I turned around and said: “Sir, thank you for speaking to me today. God bless you.” He smiled real big and said something that I could hear well. I felt it made his day.

Was at Target today and this elderly woman was trying to reach something on the top shelf so I asked her if she wanted to borrow my legs, (I’m 5’9″) she laughed! I asked her if she wanted 2 so she’d have a back up. Might not be someone tall around next time. She laughed again and said that was a good idea. I told her to have a great day. She went on about being so grateful. I told her I knew what it was like because I wasn’t always this tall. She laughed again and told her once again to have a great rest of the day.
