Call a Senior
The Facts: 11.3 million seniors live alone, according to the Institute on Aging. Of older adults living outside of nursing homes, nearly one third of them live alone. Who is most at risk? Women. They are twice as likely as older men to live by themselves. And as age increases, so does the likelihood of living alone. Helping is an easy call to make!
Call a Senior
Texting is an easy way to keep in touch, but sometimes picking up the phone is the best way to get the job done. Call a senior parent, relative, or neighbor and be a caring voice on the other end of the line.
Is small talk a struggle for you? Here are some tips to get the conversation started:
-
Ask them about their family, such as their grandchildren.
-
Ask them about hobbies or recent activities.
-
Ask them for advice. Older adults have a lot of life experience, and you could benefit from their wisdom.
Now you’re ready to dial in some care.

I called my Aunt and Uncle in Florida just to say Hi and connect with them!
Just got back from vacation so called to share some adventures with my senior Mom!
I have not talked with my senior dad in a long time. I reached out to say hello and see how he has been.
I left my senior dad a voice mail message.
While out of town with my family, we ate lunch at a restaurant recommended by my 91 year old grandmother. I called her after the incredible meal to tell her how much we enjoyed it! We discussed what she usually orders when she has visited there in the past.
Called an elderly friend I hadn’t talked to her in a few months. It was great to touch catch up again.
I called a senior today and it felt so good talking to someone wise like my grandmother they are full of live and wisdom
It had been a while since I spoke with this lady. She was friends with a lady whom I cared for, my client passed away. So I thought I would reach out to her 97 year old friend. She was tickled I phoned her up. She said she is lonely, and how nice it was to chat. She was very sweet, she said if you get another chance, please call again. Of course I hung up and burst into tears.
I called 2 seniors and we had amazing conversations!!! It really made me feel good!!! We laughed and talked, I listened !!
I was amazed when my grandma sent me messages through Facebook! and I tried
too call her but seems like she’s still practicing using it so it took several times before she answered. she’s really an amazing millennial grandma.
I have been trying to help a Senior Lady I met thur her Grandson. She has many issues! I am working thru the local Council on Aging to find her a place to stay that will give her the support she needs! It has been challenging yet very rewarding!! I will continue to work with her until her issues are resolved. I thank the Good Lord for the opportunity to serve !!
Called a sick senior and also invited her out to dinner
I have called the senior I stopped to say hello to, daily to see how she is and if she needs anything. This is definitely hard as I have a lot to do for my own mother who is 92 and in the nursing home. I call her daily and sometimes twice a day.
2 Seniors. Disheartening.
Tried to be upbeat. Just wanted to
Talk about how sick she is everyday. She isn’t.
called our neighbor to chat!
I called my godmother to wish her a happy 80th birthday!
I’ve scheduled calls to my senior sisters and call them just to say hello and catch up on things. They both live out of State so I don’t see them as often as I would want to. It nice to hear the joy in their voices when I call them. Sometimes they wonder if everything is ok because they are not particularly used to getting random calls just to chat. It also makes me happy to make them happy. Everybody wins!!!
