Ask Someone About Their Day

Whether it’s a phone call out of the blue from a loved one or a chat with our neighbor, connecting with others is rejuvenating. Take time today to connect with someone and ask about their day.

When we’re busy or stressed, it can be so comforting to hear from the people that we care about. Today, we encourage you to take time to ask someone about their day. Here are some ways you can safely connect with others and ask them how they’re doing:

  1. Pick up the phone. Give your senior loved one a call or schedule a video chat to check in.
  2. Find them on social. Send someone you you’ve been wanting to connect with a loving quote or funny image on Facebook or Instagram.
  3. Go on a walk. You never know who you’ll run into at a park or trail. Just remember to wear your mask and give the other person plenty of space when striking up a conversation.
  4. Write them a letter. Become a pen pal through Ready to Care and connect with seniors through letters.

Hello! Even though the cold weather is here and we have seen some snow there are things to be grateful for. I focus on the beautiful fall colours, the smell of fallen leaves and the beauty of the white fluffy snow, hoping by chance to see their detailed uniqueness upon falling.
What do you do to enjoy the day, in particular to embrace this time of year rather than dread it? Blessed be your day!

I went for a walk with my husband and met a senior guy . We had a long chat and we came to know he was happily married for 54 years . He looked much younger than his age. Happy life keeps you healthy and young.

Reached out to some women on FB and through text. Always nice checking in and seeing how everyone is….especially with all the social distancing with Covid. Been back to church for 2 weeks now and have really enjoyed seeing how well the seniors have done since March. There is also an elderly member that has Leukemia and has to isolate at home. We all were able to send her cards and gifts at home to let her know we miss her and love her and we are praying. God blesses us to reach out to others.

I have this mission called pay it forward. I love paying it forward. The only problem with this is that I’m openly gay. Sometimes when I’m shopping I go to pay it forward women think I’m trying to hit on them. This happened to me one day I had a women with two children in front of me, she was $5.00 short I had to give the money to the cashier and leave, getting my groceries on another line. SMH

My Assistant Nurse Manager has started something new in our huddle before our shift. She asks us our sweet, our sour, and our act of service. I talk to each of the Veterans I take care of and I ask them the same questions. If they can’t come up with a sweet or a service, I work with them to find their answer. I can’t believe how much my patient’s attitude and mood has changed for the better. Many of them wait for me to get to work so they can tell me their answers. I also have others waiting for me that doesn’t have an answer to at least one of those questions and they are excited to do the work to find their answer.

Reached out to a senior who lives alone and often suffers from depression. Asked about her day. She was feeling exhausted as she’s packing to move. She in turn asked about my daughter who’d recently had a bad car accident, but walked away from it safely. We both got something from that!

I have so much love to give. I am grateful for the opportunity to do the task at hand. Today, I asked everyone I came in contact with, How their day has been/or was. It was awesome to see faces light up when I focused just on them for a moment. Blessings and be a blessing. LOVE

As a caregiver I am blessed to chat with seniors daily. Today I spent some special time with a couple who shared their thoughts.
It is important for people to be able to share because it allows them to know someone cares about what they have to say and how they feel. In these times of so much isolation for seniors it is so easy to get depressed and think nobody cares. I care and will continue to encourage others and lend them my ear and listen.

I use to do odd jobs for a beautiful awesome lady named Ms. BILLIE.
This woman taught me many things about life and about God. She’s been in a nursing home now for 2 years. I called her up and we had the most awesome talk. She is for sure one of Gods angels here on earth and I’m so blessed to be able to call her my friend.
Thank you God for placing people in my life like Ms. Billie.
