Support Senior Health
Whether it's a nutritious dinner or a walk through the park, learn how you can help seniors live healthier lives in your community.
Your Care Mission:
Aging can come with challenges, but you can help senior friends and family members stay active, which can improve their physical and mental health as they age. Walking, sharing memories, and spending time with others are great places to start.
Here are three ways you can help seniors in your community live healthier lives:
Nourish. A healthy diet is important to senior health. As adults age, they can have problems chewing, a medication may interfere with appetite, or they may lack access to foods. Support seniors in your community by volunteering with organizations like Meals on Wheels, bringing dinner to a senior neighbor, or donating to your local food bank.
Get Moving. Lack of exercise or access to transportation may impact a senior’s health. Offer to walk with a senior, garden together, or help them get involved with an exercise program appropriate for their fitness level.
Be There. Research shows that many seniors may be at risk for social isolation. It can impact everything from nutrition to emotional health and wellbeing. The good news is that even small social gestures can have a positive impact and even extend life! Send a card, volunteer at a local senior center, or simply say “hi” to help make a difference.
