Many seniors and other high-risk groups are self-isolating to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection. But everyone needs access to healthy and nutritious meals. Helping seniors with food delivery is one way to support vulnerable populations in your community.

5 Food Delivery Options for Seniors

  1. Shop for them. If you’re still going grocery shopping, offer to pick up groceries for a senior, too.
  2. Meal delivery service. Meal delivery services can help simplify cooking and make it easier to eat nutritious meals. Help a senior set up a meal delivery service or give them a subscription as a gift.
  3. Home cooked meals. Make and deliver a home cooked meal. You can also make several meals in bulk and freeze them. Having healthy frozen meals on hand may be particularly helpful for seniors who live alone.
  4. Curbside Pick Up or Delivery. Many services and stores offer these services. If a senior can’t set this up themselves, help them do it. They may not be aware that the service is in their area.
  5. Restaurant delivery. Many restaurants are offering free delivery. Treat a neighbor or friend to a meal at home from their favorite local restaurant.

Meals on Wheels also operates in many areas. This could be another option for seniors who need access to healthy meals.

  1. I have been delivering food through out the coronavirus. To all in need . I’ve called many different states to check on seniors who have been inside since this all started to check on their well being and give them hope and compassion ship through these rough times. I’ve found out information that would help with Bill’s and medical problems as well as mailing out naked goods placing little notes and complements inside the boxes. And will continue these thing until everyone can restart our lives again.🙂🙏🙏🙂

  8. Have been doing this for my mother-in-law even before the virus, but now even more so. Occasionally she will take advantage of “senior” hours at a couple of nearby stores to get out of the house and interact with someone besides family.

  10. I like the recommendation to use positive words and signs for encouragement. In keeping with Proverbs 16:24
“Kind words are like honey…enjoyable and helpful.” Actually 16:21-24.
Is easier to ask for help to try to remember to say kind words than to stop saying the wrong unkind negative words..we get into such bad habits. That is why this is a good site. Best to teach NEW , better habits then we won’t have time to practice the bad ones!

  12. I am a senior receiving treatment for recurring prostate cancer, unemployed and have no source of income. I applied for unemployment & the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance bit was denied. I have tried seekIng assistance but have either been denied or not heard back from anyone.
I attempted to make arrangements with PECO. The best they could offer was $228 beginning in June. After making payment arrangements I received a letter from PECO demanding an immediate payment in order to confirm the agreement. I don’t know how I’m going to meet the monthly $228 let alone make an immediate payment to confirm the arrangement.
My HVAC system does not seem to be working as it should. I had a service call last week for $736, and was informed it needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $11,000.
I am beside myself. The stress and anxiety have increased & worsened the side effects of the cancer treatment.
Please let me know where I might be able to get some assistance. I may be contacted at: 610-329-0090.
    Thank you and G-d bless,

  21. In honor of my mother who passed away in a July 9, 2015, I love to cook homemade soup with lots of vegetables, pasta, beef or chicken.
She was born on Christmas Day. She enjoyed celebrating her birthday with family and friends and sharing my soup with them.
Adding homemade peach cobble, hot water cornbread, lots of conversation, music and laughter made the occasion extra special.
Since she passed away, I try to still fix this meal as often as I can
