Today at Walmart, I saw a senior using one of their motorized carts. She was trying to pick out some fall decor that was in a wire bin. I helped her get what she was wanting, and we had a real nice 5 or 6 minute conversation. She lifted my spirits and I think she appreciated the help.

Going to meet my “older” senior friend this afternoon at DQ for our favorite treat and a visit! We lean on one another a lot! ♥
– Nancy

I call each one of my senior friends once a week and I get together with each one of them at least twice a month to make sure they know how much I love them!
– Julie

We appreciate everyone who is out there making a difference every day. Thank you.

  11. My Seniors that I am in contact with on a regular basis mean the world to me! I feel honored and extremely lucky and blessed that I have the chance to bring some sunshine and love into their lives, just as they bring so much of the same into my life as well… They have so much wisdom and love to share with others and I am just happy to be one of the people who gets to mutually benefit from spending time with them and letting them know that they mean so much to me & that I am so grateful that each one of them are a huge part of my life, and that the happiness, fun and laughter they provide in my life is so very much appreciated by me. So I make it a priority in my life to keep in touch with them with my weekly calls and going by to see them on a regular basis every month where I will bring them something special like a beautiful flower arrangement or some of their favorite fruits or nuts. I’ve even looked for new cell phone app’s that might help them study Spanish or whatever they are currently interested in and that they would appreciate as well. If they like the apps I find for them I take the time to download it for them and show them how to use it & I also write down their user ID’s and passwords for them along with a detailed list on how to utilize it after I leave them too. That way they feel empowered to do it on their own if I’m not there and they want to use it again! Easy peasy, right? Sometimes it’s just flowers picked out of my yard, which cost me nothing but the time to cut and arrange them, but it’s always something that I know they will love ? and it shows that I think about them even when we aren’t in each other’s presence… I really love doing this to show them they aren’t disposable, they matter so much in my life and I don’t want them ever to feel insignificant or unloved, because they are treasures to me, & they always will be…. ???❤️ Julie

  12. I’m grateful for the care missions because I feel they help inspire more kindness. Whenever I am at the store and see someone they need, I either ask if they need help or find something cute to talk about. It helps make my day and I’m sure it helps make theirs as well.

  14. I forgot to tell you that I also started taking an elderly woman (who likes to have lunch at a restaurant near my work about once a week) back to her home after she had gotten in an auto accident and totaled her car… It has been extremely sad for her, because she can’t afford to buy another car. So I noticed that she was having to take a shuttle bus back to her house, as she is currently on a walker to help her get around. I went out and talked with her and asked her if I could give her a ride back to her house, and she said she didn’t want to be a burden to me, I smiled and said “you will never be a burden to me, as that would be an impossibility!” So she laughed as she smiled back at me, and then she happily agreed to allow me to take her home. Even though her home was just a few minutes away from where I work, I got to know her so well during our talks on the way to her house, that I now take my lunch when she visits her favorite restaurant every week. No when she needs her ride home, she will just stop into my work and off we go! It’s become a regular thing we do together, as I help her get through a tough time in her life, as she knows she won’t be able to buy another car again because she can’t afford to. So I am sure it will continue past the time she can walk on her own again and she feels better. Wow, you know what, this just popped into my head right now… when I buy a new car (which I plan on doing soon) I will give her my car instead of trading it in, because the car she wrecked was the same make and model of my car, just an older year than mine is. I know she would appreciate it and it would make my heart sing to help her in this way! Because losing the ability to drive yourself around makes you feel a huge loss of freedom and independence (which is a big thing to anyone, not just the elderly!) and she might get depressed, or feel isolated, or worse yet, that she is a burden to others, like she said to me!) and it doesn’t have to be that way for her. And quite frankly, since our chance meeting she won’t have to go through this much longer, as I will give her my car and she can get back to living again and regain her independence she misses having right now. So it looks like I will be buying a new car sooner than I initially thought, but good gosh how great it will feel for both of us, and I get the opportunity to be the one to restore her freedom again! Both our hearts will sing and what a beautiful song it will be! Now I can’t wait to do this for her once her doctor give her a clear bill of health and she no longer needs the walker anymore!

I feel truly blessed to have recognized her plight at the time she needed me most, and by talking with her and in providing a simple ride home to her. As she is another beauty that has become a dear friend to me and we both love the time we spend together on those rides to her house… She had even asked me this week “if I can maybe come by after work sometime for a little longer visit and see her house?” As I only have a half an hour for my lunch, so the most I can do then is to just get her home and pull out her walker and put it all together again for her and then hug her goodbye… So of course I said “I would love to!” So another great elderly person enters my life and this time it’s at my work! Now I can’t wait to see her face when she’s well enough and I tell her that I am going to give her my car! Tears of joy all around, right? Forever I will love, love, love ❤️ them all! Julie

  20. I have a Prayerline on M-Wed-Fri with some seniors. One of our Prayerline members is hospitalized and I went to visit her on Tuesday and Friday last week.
Another Senior was involved in a car accident recently. Me and a Prayerline Member visited her on Friday, however, she expired on Saturday. We we’re glad we got a chance to see her before she transitioned to her heavenly home.
