I’m Ready to Log It!

Research shows that receiving messages can improve your mood if you’re feeling lonely or sad. This especially goes for seniors, all of whom grew up in a time when handwritten notes and cards were one of the greatest ways to show you care.

This week’s mission is to put a smile on the face of a senior by becoming a Pen Pal. We will connect you with a senior to spread joy and help prevent senior social isolation and loneliness.

How It Works:

  1. Write A Letter – Submit your letter to Ready to Care. You can add photos or a video message to help put a face to your kind words.
  2. We Handle Delivery – Skip the stamps! After you submit, we’ll deliver your letter to our review team. Each letter is screened for safety and security before sending to our seniors.
  3. Stay Connected – You can request a return letter from the senior too.

  20. Hello my senior neighbour.
I hope your day is going okay. I have been thinking about my late grandmother a lot lately. I really miss her. I often wonder what she would think of the world today. I wonder if she would put on a mask, drag out her walker, and make her daily trip to the corner store for her scratch tickets. Yes, every day, like clockwork, she made her trip for scratchers in hope of the big pay out. My mom used to chastise her for wasting her money, worried that her pension would not extend to the end of the month. Secretly, we all knew Mom would take care of her if she ran a little short.
Everybody has their little passions, whether it be lottery tickets, gardening, cooking, etc. What are the things in life that bring you joy? Do you have a favorite TV program? Do you watch sports? Are you political? What things do you look forward to in your life?
How has this coronavirus affected you? Are you home bound for safety? Have you learned any new things, like a new hobby? Are you reading more? I would love to hear how you have adapted to our new world? All this thinking about my grandma and how she would deal with this, I wondered how other seniors might be faring. I would love to hear your story and how you have adapted. If you would like a pen pal to share your life with, I would be more than happy to correspond with you.
Have a great day, or at least a good one.
Warmest regards, and all the best to you.
    Kelly St Coeur.

  21. A friendly “Hello!” to you. I hope you are keeping well amidst all this chaos.
It sure has had an impact on all our lives, has it not? How are you coping? Are you doing okay?
My mom lives about eighty kilometers from me so I do not get to see her nearly as often as she would like. Coronavirus has made visiting even less often. The bi-weekly visits have now turned into one every other month. We do not get too close. We abide by the rules, keeping two meters apart. I schedule our visit for nice sunny days so we can visit on her patio, have lunch together and a game of scrabble. Thank goodness we can talk on the phone daily!
I often wonder what other seniors are doing. Not everybody has family near enough to visit. Do you have visitors? Are there family members nearby? Even with those supports, it can be tough. If you would be interested, we could be pen pals! I remember having one as a child. I thought it was fun.
If you are interested, I would love to correspond with you.
I will let you think this over, and hope to hear back from you. So, until next time …
    Take care and be well.
    Warmest wishes,
    Kelly St Coeur.

  29. I remember last year I was leaving Blazedale I was just leaving to walk home and then I saw this elderly woman who was sitting on a beach outside the Arena, I was going to go right by her when something told me to stop and that’s why I did. I sat down beside her and I put my arm around her shoulders and I asked her when was the last time she had something to eat she told me that it had been a few days since she had something to eat so I gave her 5.00 dollars and then thinking to myself about how long that would last her for food, so without thinking I took the 5.00 back and I saw her face, she had this look on her face like “oh no ” she took her money back and realizing what I just did I looked at her and I said ” oh no ” I said, I’m not taking the money back I wanted to give you a little bit more, so I gave her 20.00 dollars and she smiled. I kept thinking about how lucky I was. I talked to her for a few moments and then I told her that I had to go home but I’d hope that I would see her again, but I did not, I remember that when I was going to get up and leave I turned towards her and I gave her a little hug and a kiss on her cheek and then I saw two people sitting on the beach next to her and I noticed a look on thier face, like they did not agree with me giving her a little kiss on her face, it actually made me feel sick to see that. They were all dressed up and I was sure that they had money then I thought to myself, It’s a shame that more people don’t do something to help other people. Just one little good deed that’s it. These days When someone who does something good for someone else is critizied for it by people snorting like a bull ready to attack because they don’t agree to your actions. I say , that if you live in one of those places where you can get stuck in the mud and you can’t get your car to work, you would wish that someone was around to help you right? I would. So what’s the difference between helping with a car that’s stuck and helping a elderly woman to get food.? My mom always told me to share and she told me that one day I will have the opportunity to help someone else and how it would make me feel ” so good ” ,I didn’t believe her because I never thought of what I could do for someone else I didn’t have anything to offer , so I thought 💔 boy I was so wrong. When you take the time to do things like that It really does make you feel great even when you don’t expect anything in return, its a great feeling. I think about her often, and I still feel that I wish that I would see her again. I can still feel her hug, that’s awesome.

Or more over roses I wish that I could have had one with me I would have loved to give her one she was so sweet ❤. Today I thank God for all the pain I’ve experienced in my life because it actually made me realize that other people have feelings and maybe they need a little help every now and then, so what !!!!!! I would do it over and over again with no regrets.
