It’s amazing what small gestures can do to brighten someone’s day. This week, wave to a senior you don’t know and put a smile on his or her face.
Much like the art of picking up the phone to talk, the neighborly gesture of waving to strangers is not as common as it once was. In fact, many people nowadays are just too busy or untrusting to bother.
This week, wave to an older adult on the street, in the grocery, or stopped at a traffic stop. A wave is a great way to show warmth and respect while keeping a safe distance from someone who may feel vulnerable.
Not only will a wave make a senior feel acknowledged and connected – a problem for nearly a fourth of seniors – these simple acts of kindness have been proven to benefit your own health (pdf).
Where did you wave at someone? Who was it? Let us know in the comments!
